Meet the Team – Forklift Operators

Friday November 22, 2024

At the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, the mission to serve those in need relies on our warehouse team to keep shelves stocked, donations organized, and food moving. An essential part of this operation are the forklift operators, who handle, lift, and transport the food inventory to keep the Food Bank running smoothly.

When donations arrive at the warehouse, the forklift drivers are the first ones there, unloading trucks and organizing incoming pallets of food. Each pallet can carry hundreds of pounds of food items, from canned goods and non-perishable boxes to fresh produce. Forklift drivers move through our busy warehouse space, lifting, placing, and arranging food items where they are needed most.

When our warehouse is managed efficiently, there is less time between donations and their distribution, which ensures that families receive fresh, quality items. Forklift drivers play a large role in this rapid turnover. By making sure that the operations run smoothly, food can reach families faster – ensuring that our community receives the help they need.

In 2023, we made investments to improve our operations, and our forklift drivers played a large role in that process, resulting in a 23% increase in inventory accuracy and a 42% increase in warehouse picking efficiency. The improvements made have reduced our operating costs overall, which allows us to use those savings to go directly to purchasing more food.

Every item that the forklift operators move plays a part in feeding someone in need. Their dedication, skill, and hard work are essential to the food bank’s operations, and we could not do what we do without them.

Our team of forklift operators include: Traveon George, Chad Davis, Fantaza Stroud, Mark McCormick, Mark Walker, Sean Robinson, Darrius Louis, Stella Robinson, Brent Harris, Talana Crockett
