Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank Acts on Jif Peanut Butter Recall
With the recently announced recall of Jif peanut butter, the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank is taking precautions by checking our inventory of Jif peanut butter following the recent recall over concerns about salmonella contamination. The lot numbers included in the recall have been removed from our inventory.
Peanut butter is a versatile food rich in protein making it a popular item at the Food Bank where there is plenty on hand. A food recall during continued supply chain issues adds barriers to accessing nutritious foods, especially those rich in protein.
“Food quality and safety are top priorities at the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank at any time, but it is especially important when there is a nationwide food recall like the one Jif recently issued,” says Mike Manning, President and CEO.
The Food Bank has checked the entire warehouse inventory for recalled Jif peanut butter and has disposed of any that was in stock. The recall notice was sent to the agencies we work with throughout our 11-parish service area, and we have instructed them to inspect their inventories and dispose of any recalled product they may have on-site.
The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank continues to monitor the situation and will issue updates as needed.
