Give To Fight Hunger This Feeding Tuesday- December 1, 2020

Wednesday November 25, 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank experiencing a decrease in food, funds and time. As the holiday season approaches, everyone knows about Black Friday, Cyber Monday, even Small Business Saturday. Still, many are unaware of the global day of giving, #GivingTuesday! Giving Tuesday falls on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving every holiday season; however, we are putting our own spin on this movement to inspire others to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity.

Celebrate #FeedingTuesday with us on Tuesday, December 1, 2020! We are asking for your help feeding the hungry in our 11-parish service area.

In 2019, the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank distributed over 11 million meals through our 100-plus member agencies thanks to donors like you. Financial donations are one of the best ways to assist in our effort to fight hunger as just $1 can provide up to 3 meals for those in need.

“Because we are a member of Feeding America, we are able to access national donations from national donors for the cost of transportation to bring that food in,” said Mike Manning, President and CEO of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. “That is how we can leverage and do so much more than $1 than an individual can.”

We experienced a decrease in volunteers due to the pandemic and residents limiting movements outside their homes beyond essential needs. However, the Food Bank’s staff and volunteers provide an essential service to feed the food insecure. Governor Edwards deployed the Louisiana National Guard (LANG) to help fill the absence of these volunteers. The Guardsmen will remain with us until December, but a call for volunteers will be needed to help us sustain our regular operations as well as the increased demand for food services.

During normal operations the Food Bank serves an average of 100,000 people a year but we are now serving an average of 50,000 people in just one month. Under normal operations, the Food Bank is run as a warehouse facility; however, we have established a temporary drive through operations process to help supplement the increased need. Help us to continue this operation by donating this Giving Tuesday.

Take this opportunity to make a difference this holiday season and make your gift here. Additionally, you can click here to find our Facebook event. If you mark yourself as interested, you will receive a reminder notification on this global day of giving!
