Disaster Response Distribution in East Baton Rouge Parish – Baker, LA
Many of our fellow community members are missing meals due to the impact of Hurricane Ida. The Food Bank held a distribution on Monday, September 6, 2021 in response to this disaster. This distribution was hosted at Advantage Charter Academy with help from the City of Baker, Council Member Cleve Dunn Jr. and Move Your Feet.
Despite the Labor Day holiday, multiple volunteers as well as Greater Baton Rouge staff were out helping those in need after Hurricane Ida devastated many of their neighbors. Roughly 1500 households were served at this distribution with items including disaster relief boxes and cases of water.
Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, Feeding America CEO and Louisiana native, was in attendance as well to meet with those on the ground and see the need first hand. “There really is a lot of damage out there and a lot of people that are struggling,” stated Claire. “There is so much we can all do when we rally together to have some positive change.”
