Stamp Out Hunger to Take Place May 12
Start collecting your nonperishable food items for the 26th Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive presented by Home Bank on Saturday, May 12, 2018, hosted by the United States Postal Service and the National Association of Letter Carriers. Last year, this nationwide one-day food drive collected over 80.1 million pounds of food, and in our service area more than 65,000 pounds were collected. All food collected in the Baton Rouge area will be transported to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, who serves more than 115 member agencies in 11 parishes.
To participate in this year’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, residents can leave a nonperishable food donation by their mailbox on May 12. Local letter carriers will collect the food as they proceed along their mail route.
“Our food drive’s timing is crucial,” NALC’s Joe Powell said. “Food banks and pantries often receive the majority of their donations during Thanksgiving and Winter Holiday Seasons. By springtime, many pantries are depleted, entering the summer low on supplies as a time when many school breakfast and lunch programs are not available to children in need.”
