Like many in our community, the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank has been affected by the recent flooding in Southern Louisiana. After receiving 4 feet of water throughout our 170,000 square-foot facility, we relocated to two temporary warehouses. Recently, we received the “all clear” for warehouse operations to return to our facility at the Fraenkel Center as proper sanitation and cleaning has been completed. Office staff is now operating from temporary office trailers outside of our warehouse. This move has allowed us to reinstate our volunteer program as well as accept regular food donations.

Despite the challenges we have faced, the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank has been blessed by generous donations and volunteers who have helped us continue serving the community. Unfortunately, we still have a long way to go as the Food Bank lost everything— including our computers, office furniture, all but one truck, all warehouse equipment, and more than 575,000 pounds of purchased and donated food. Because of this, we are limited on the number of barrel pick-ups and deliveries we can make.

We are overwhelmed with gratitude by those who have reached out to help us. We are grateful for countless volunteers and specialty trained groups who have come to help clear out our facility. If you’re interested in supporting the Food Bank, monetary donations are the most impactful and the greatest need at this time. We appreciate the generosity and support from our food bank family, the community, the state and across the country.
