Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank To Benefit From “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.”

Tuesday April 30, 2019

On April 22, 2019, Walmart, Sam’s Club and Feeding America launched the Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign, a nationwide initiative calling the public to take action in the fight against hunger. Walmart and Sam’s Club kickstarted the campaign with a $3 million donation to Feeding America and member food banks, including the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. Now in its sixth year, the campaign has raised nearly $75 million to fight hunger, with the majority of funds benefiting local food banks. Walmart and Sam’s Club are celebrating 749 million meals secured to-date and inviting customers and members to help them reach 1 billion meals this year.

“As we go into our sixth year of the ‘Fight Hunger. Spark Change.’ campaign, it’s exciting to approach the 1 billion mark in terms of charitable meals secured for Feeding America over the life of the program,” said Kathleen McLaughlin, chief sustainability officer for Walmart. “Food insecurity continues to affect communities across the United States. Working with Feeding America, our customers, members, associates and suppliers, Walmart and Sam’s Club aim to be a part of the solution.”

From April 22 through May 20, 2019 , there are three ways you can help fight hunger:

1. Purchase Participating Products: Customers and members can purchase participating products in stores or online to donate. Each participating item purchased at Walmart will unlock a donation from the supplier, equivalent to at least 1 meal secured on behalf of local food banks. Each participating item purchased at Sam’s Club will unlock a donation from the supplier, equivalent to at least 5 meals secured on behalf of local food banks

2. Donate In-Store: Customers and members can donate the amount of their choice at staffed registers and self-checkouts ($1 helps secure at least 10 meals on behalf of local Feeding America food banks).

3. Donate Online: Customers and members can donate the amount of their choice online at www.feedingamerica.org/walmart.

All donations made from sales in stores and clubs will be made on behalf of Feeding America member food banks and will stay in the communities serviced by those food banks.
