Kicking Off the Summer With Cooking Matters
We have started the summer with our first Cooking Matters course through the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. On June 5, 2019 at West Feliciana Parish Library our Nutrition Services Manager, Jordyn Barlow, and Nutrition Services Coordinator, Courtney Jumonville, held the first of six classes for West Feliciana Parish.
Our Cooking Matters campaign at the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank is helping end childhood hunger by inspiring families to make healthy, affordable food choices in this six-week course. Our programs teach parents and caregivers with limited food budgets to shop for and cook healthy meals – building a world where healthy eating choices are available for everyone.
From free education tools and hands-on cooking courses to interactive grocery store tours and more, this program is unique and effective in our fight to end hunger. Currently, the program is only offered in the following parishes in the Greater Baton Rouge Service Area: Livingston Parish, Pointe Coupee Parish and West Feliciana. However, we hope to expand the program to other parishes as it grows.
The next round of classes begins Monday, June 17 for 11am-1pm at the Pointe Coupee Parish Library Innis Branch at 6444 LA HWY 1, Innis, LA 70747. For more information on how to RSVP to this class or learn more information about the Cooking Matters program, please call Jordyn at 225-359-9940.
