Summer Heats Up With Check Out Hunger Campaign
Check Out Hunger is back! From June 29 – August 9, you can make a donation at the grocery store register to contribute to the fight against hunger. Read on to find out how!
As summertime rolls through, multiple factors have a negative effect on those that the Food Bank serves. Increasing temperatures result in increased utility costs, forcing seniors and families to choose between food or paying bills. Children are out of school for the summer, which limits their access to free and reduced school meals. This can result in a loss of ten meals per child per week!
You can change the face of summer hunger this year by participating in the 2015 Check Out Hunger campaign, hosted by WAFB, WBXH and BRPT Lake. From June 29 to August 9, look for Check Out Hunger tickets at the register of your favorite participating grocery store. Select a ticket for either $1.00, $3.00, or $5.00 and hand your ticket to the cashier. The cashier will scan your selected ticket, adding the amount to your grocery bill – simple as that! Keep in mind that at the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, $1 is equivalent to 5 meals. You really can make a difference in the fight against hunger – remember, every dollar counts!
