Elizabeth Pfifer Appointed as New President and CEO of the Food Bank
The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank is proud to announce the appointment of Elizabeth (Liz) Pfifer as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective November 1st. Pfifer succeeds Michael G. Manning, who led the organization with distinction for over two decades.
A seasoned nonprofit executive, Pfifer brings more than 20 years of global leadership experience, including strategic roles with Catholic Relief Services across the US, Africa and Asia. Most recently, she served as Director of Workforce Development, leading talent management for a 6,000-person workforce. While overseas, she oversaw multi-million-dollar programs to improve health, nutrition and food security.
“Liz’s visionary leadership, deep commitment to community engagement, and proven track record in nonprofit management make her the ideal choice to lead the Food Bank into its next chapter,” said Vance Gibbs, Chairperson of the Board of Directors. “Her values and vision align with our mission to serve families across the Greater Baton Rouge area.”
Pfifer holds a BA in International Economics and Finance from The Catholic University of America and an MA in International Political Economy and Development from Fordham University. Pfifer’s career is marked by successful fundraising efforts in both emergency and development contexts. She is known for forging strong partnerships with government agencies, the private sector and community-based organizations.
“I am honored to join the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank and build on its incredible legacy of service and compassion,” said Pfifer. “As a proud Baton Rouge resident, volunteer and parent, I am deeply invested in our community. Together with our dedicated staff, volunteers and partners, we remain committed to ensuring every family has access to nutritious meals and gains the knowledge and support they need to thrive.”
The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank has been a cornerstone of support for families facing food insecurity, distributing millions of meals annually through its network of pantries and partner agencies. Under Pfifer’s leadership, the Food Bank aims to expand its impact across its 11-parish area to meet the growing needs of the community.
