Our mission is to feed the hungry in Baton Rouge and the surrounding parishes by providing food and educational outreach through faith-based and other community partners.

Farm Fresh Healthy Food Initiative

This program is designed to provide fresh produce to agencies that may not have the capacity to store refrigerated produce consistently. Our goal is to introduce healthy foods to vulnerable communities and food deserts with limited access to affordable fruits and vegetables.

Client Network Distributions

The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank acquires, inventories, and warehouses donated and purchased food products. We deliver food to more than 110 agencies, completely free of charge.

BackPack Program

The BackPack program is designed to help fill the void for children who are at risk of missing meals over the weekend and during holidays.

Senior Grocery Program

The Senior Grocery Program, which includes the Food Bank’s Adopt-A-Senior Program, provides basic, shelf-stable food once a month to qualified, at-risk seniors.

Mobile Pantry Program

Food from Mobile Pantries is distributed on a first come, first served basis and all product is free to the public. We work with the donor to select an area where there is a need as well as one of our member agencies to help with food distribution.

Pick a Better Snack ™

The primary component of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank’s Pick a better snack™ program is a monthly nutrition education lesson delivered by a health educator. Each lesson introduces students to a new fruit or vegetable. The students learn about the fruit or vegetable in an interactive, age-appropriate manner.

Pick It! Try It! Like It!

The Pick It, Try it, Like Its program is an education intervention for individuals throughout the lifespan that focus on obesity prevention in community and family settings by increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables through providing individuals with information on selecting, preparing, and sampling fresh produce. It is designed to improve cooking skills, healthy eating, nutritional awareness, and healthy behaviors. Through hands-on cooking, facilitated conversations, nutrition concepts, and taste-testing, this program is purposed to enhance nutritional well-being, dietary habits, and achieve long-term health outcomes in relation to increased knowledge.

Food is Medicine

Food is Medicine is a partnership with hospitals, clinics, or medical facilities to identify patients who are facing food insecurity. Upon discharge, patients will receive a box of non-perishable, nutritious food provided by the Food Bank. Partnered facilities are required to have a location to store food boxes and determine how many food boxes to receive. Each food box will include resources on how to access food and nutrition information on the items included in the box.
